Princess vs. Queen

Rebecca: I'd rather be a princess than a queen because queens die sooner.

Trash

It was pouring on trash day this week - really coming down hard. Daniel lamented, "Our trash is ruined!!"

"Yes, but it's TRASH," I reminded him.

"But it's RUINED!!!"

I can't argue with that logic.

Paul Simon

I think I have burned my kids out on Paul Simon's music. We were listening and Daniel asked, "Is this song by Paul Simon?" I said, "Yeah." He said, "How MANY songs did he WRITE???"

Angry Birds

Elizabeth and I were playing Angry Birds last night, and she was lamenting that she didn't understand WHY the birds were angry.

So I went back to the beginning clip where it shows the birds finding the empty nest and then pans over to the pigs with the eggs and the frying pan.

She said, "So the birds are angry, and the pigs have breakfast!"

$100

Over lunch, I asked Rebecca what she would do if she had $100. She said, "I'd adopt a baby. There are a lot of babies that don't have anyone to love them."

And then she added, "If I had $200, I would buy food to feed the baby too!!"

Llama

Me to Rebecca: Save the drama for your llama!

Rebecca: I WANT a llama for my drama, but YOU won't let me have one!!

Cesar: Save the drama for the ZOO's llama?

Rebecca: THAT won't work! We never go to the zoo!! (We have been twice in the past month.)

It's only 9 a.m.

Rebecca: "I hope I don't have to go through this ALL DAY!!"

Me: "Put up with what?"

Rebecca: "CHAOS!!"

 

Blessed

I told Rebecca, "I am so happy that you're mine. I'm very blessed to have you for a daughter."

Not lacking self-confidence, "Yes," she serenely replied, "yes, you are."

Vocations

Daniel said to me, "Mommy, what would you think if I became a priest?"

I said I would be very proud and happy. And I added, "I would also be very proud and happy if you became an engineer. Or a Lego designer. The important thing is that you do what GOD wants you to do."

He agreed. So, of course, I pushed it further.

"And so it's very important to listen to know what God wants you to do."

He said exasperatedly, "I'm TRYING to figure it out!"

I gotta learn when to shut up. He's already got angst about what he will be when he grows up - and he's only 10.
